Movie review 'Office space'

(if you've already watched the movie, go to the office space extras)
Incredibly true-to-life story about life at work in an office. Anyone who's ever worked in a large office (or even just a big company) will find many things that they can relate to. Needles to remind you, not all relationships are good...

Let's take enough money out of that place [company] so we never have
to ever sit in a cubicle again.

"Office space" is a fun and fantastic portray of the working life of IT geeks Directed by Mike Judge. Stuck in a cubicle (originating from the Latin "cubiculum" for bed chamber), the main character Peter Gibbonsis is living in a world of pain: Faced with impossible traffic just trying to get to work, then at work, the annoying and constantly loud high-pitched voice receptionist. Forever being disrupted by an army of clueless management focusing only on how forms are filled out, the main character is about to give up all hope of a normal life. And when he and his annoying co-working face "right sizing" of the company (read "down sizing"), they cook up a plan to steal lots of money and re-locate on a sunny island with a white beach. They plan to infect the company, altering the algorithms used for monetary computation. This should be easy given the notorious difficulties that lies in using floats and doubles.

Peter becomes develops anti-social skills. He becomes a cubicle gangster who don't mind going against orders. Interestingly, he gets away with it... a promotion is even laying in store for him.

Whilst the movie is a comedy, it has a parallel story to convey. It's about remembering to live your life and enjoy every day of it. Many office people live in the constant pain that Peter Gibbons is. Such people should watch this movie and get inspired to live a better life. The following quote from the movie boils it down to its essence:
When I saw that fat man keel over and die..
Michael, we don't have a lot of time on this earth,
we weren't meant to spend it this way.

Human beings were not meant to sit in little cubicle
and staring at computer screens all day,
filling out forms and listening to 8 different bosses
drone on about mission statements

Conclusion

Fun and "realistic" movie about how life is lived in an office and how to turn it all around for the better. If you like Dilbert, you'll love this movie!

A true 5/5 rating from yours truly!.
